The Skill, Service and Physical Recreation are extra-curricular activities, and may not be activities that you take part in as part of your school curriculum.

UNIS TRAINING SESSION ATTENDANCE:

- After three (3) unexcused absences to International Award meetings, a student will be removed from the program.

- Completing the International Award will require some after school and weekend commitments. These commitments may require additional costs (e.g. train fare, food, etc)

- Students have to attend the practice journey as well as the Adventurous Journey

- Students must submit all documentation as set by UNIS to achieve their Award through the UNIS program

ADVENTUROUS JOURNEY:

- Students who do not meet the requirements of the International Award prior to the Adventurous Journey Trip may not be able to participate in that trip.

- Students may only obtain the International Award if they complete all requirements prior to the Adventurous Journey Trip AND complete the Adventurous Journey Trip.

- Students will be assessed by an independent facilitator and must pass this section of the Award to achieve the Award.

- The International Award is designed to teach student autonomy: students are nevertheless not permitted to hike alone and are only permitted to hike with their group (4 to 7 students). Each group may therefore hike at their own pace. Each group is given a beacon or a radio in case of emergency. While a school chaperone may not be next to each group at all times during a given hike, an adult chaperone will nevertheless be nearby if there is need for immediate assistance.

ASSESSMENT OF PROGRAM REQUIREMENTS:

- For each of the three core requirements of the International Award (skill, service and physical recreation), an adult supervisor (e.g. coach or activity supervisor) is required to assess whether the student has met the requirement. Students may NOT have an immediate relative act a their supervisor / assessor for any of these requirements.

- Students are required to complete their Online Record Book (ORB) regularly and in a timely manner. Failure to meet this requirement may result in removal from the program.

- Students need to be physically fit and capable of taking part in the Adventurous Journey.  They will be required to complete a fitness test up to three times prior to their Adventurous Journey as well as take part in the practice journey in preparation for their trip.
